Musings: Autoimmune

Autoimmune

We are traveling out west, my husband and I, driving our only-mildly-air-conditioned car and listening to the news, so it’s a relief to stop at a rest area.  We find a narrow strip of shade and park there, getting out to stretch our legs and to wander over to read the information provided about the California Trail, which went through here.  It was one of the routes taken long ago by immigrants in search of new opportunities in the West. They endured heat, dust, wind, and–given the endlessness of the landscape—hopelessness.
