June 8 “Ukraine through the lives of the Rusev family” – Omar and Linda Warner – Omar and Linda Warner, their family and friends, have supported the Rusev family of Odesa, Ukraine since shortly after the Russian invasion of 2022. Omar will share with us the plight of the Rusevs, from the women and children escaping at the start of the war and their decision to return home; the uninterrupted work of Ivan protecting nature on the shores of the Black Sea; to starting a sustainable agriculture project in Ukraine that employs Roman Rusev and supports research agronomists who continue their work despite the full scale war. The Rusevs remind us how family and faith help carry us through times of crisis. Omar was raised in the Twin Cities and Linda in River Falls where they now live. Omar trained as an ethnobotanist and has worked in nature conservation and sustainable agriculture in 25 countries, including Russia and Ukraine. Book Club will meet.
June 15 Is UUSRF your “Third Place”? – The third place is not home and not work, but instead one of the physical settings that have, throughout history, encouraged a sense of warmth, conviviality, and that special kind of human sustenance we call community where people from different walks of life gather to hang out in an informal atmosphere for discussion, debate, camaraderie and laughter. We’ll meet informally today to connect and share. Have you got a soap box issue? Bring it. An activity for kids will be part of the mix, and there will be snacks.
June 22 “The Immigrants’ Way of Life” – Petrona Melgarejo – Who are they? Where do they come from? What do they do? Why they are here?
June 29 June 29 “Wolf’s Message” – Paula Lugar and Bob Emberger – This one hour documentary introduces Suzanne Giesmann, an evidential medium, who talks to souls who have “crossed over”. Her message has changed Paula’s life and outlook as Paula faces a terminal disease diagnosis, and she wants to share it with others. The movie will be shown in two parts with time for discussion after each. More information on the movie and Paula’s connection to it is available here. Optional activities for children will be available.
