“Tie Down the Sun”, Old Norwegian ritual

The Winter Solstice will be here soon (December 21, 2024). Is it time to get back to one of our old traditions?

“Tie Down the Sun” is an old Norwegian ritual performed on the winter solstice to call for the return of light on the longest night of the year. It is a  celebration of the power of community and the cycles of life.

Attendees meet at the fireside behind the Unitarian Universalist Society of River Falls (UUSRF) building with a ball (not a skein) of natural-fiber yarn for each person and songs, poems, readings to fit the season for a 45 minute outdoor ceremony.  UUSRF is located at N8010 US Highway 65 River Falls, WI 54022.

The kitchen will be open for a potluck afterwards.  This event needs a coordinator.  Contact UUSRFon65@gmail.com to volunteer.
