January 26 Service: Fracking

Andi Cloud of the Ho-Chunk Nation spoke about frac sand mining and its impact on the environment, a subject of interest to all who care about the earth and our futures. Andi Jo Cloud is the founder of Migizi Advocates for Turtle Island. She has been instrumental in arranging gatherings to study and probably oppose the effects of Frac Sand Mining on Ho Chunk lands. The Ho Chunk Nation is early in its response to the threat of frac sand mining, but the people are learning and reacting speedily. The Ho Chunk Nation Elders have passed a resolution to commit time and money to studying the issues related to sand mining and to educating the people. Many people of the nation are already beginning to feel the impact of the encroachment on their lands. At the invitation of the Social Action Committee. Andi Cloud is this year's Scholtus Memorial Service speaker.
