About UUSRF

Who We Are...
Unitarian Universalists of River Falls have met informally for political discussions and to listen to speakers since the 1950's. Easter Sunday of 1988 marked the first official service of the Unitarian Universalist Society of River Falls. The Society was chartered on April 2, 1989 with thirty members and affiliated with the Unitarian Universalist Association in 1990. The Society utilized rental space until 1993 when the purchase and renovation of the special blue building took place.  The blue building was our home until the summer of 2005 when we acquired a spacious building South of River Falls on Highway 65.

We are a personal community where everyone knows and cares for each other. Our members come from throughout the St. Croix Valley and are a varied and creative group. We seek to be an open, caring community family that welcomes all who can attend and participate.

Programming...
Sunday services are held at 10:30 every Sunday.  Our congregation is in a time of transition as we engage in the process of procuring a new minister.  We hope then to continue our tradition of minister led programs as well as member-led programs, guest lectures, and intergenerational services.  These services comprise a wide range of topics concerning moral, ethical, political, and social issues; personal beliefs; and holiday celebrations. Music, poetry, and inspirational readings are included in most Sunday services.

Spiritual Education...
Children and youth meet at the same time as the adult service. We seek to nurture an inquiring mind, a tolerant spirit, and a loving and concerned heart rather than teaching a particular set of beliefs. We regard all the world's religions as resources in this effort. Special adult discussion groups and educaton classes are offered at times. We maintain a small but growing library in our meeting house for member use.

Social Activities...
Refreshments are served after each service with an occasional pot luck. Dinner parties and get-togethers, including picnics, are held at various times throughout the year. We have various small groups that get together based on shared interests.

Community Outreach...
We believe in contributing to the larger community of where we are located so we collect food for local food shelves, maintain a stretch of County Road F and proudly support Our Neighbor's Place in River Falls.

Our Mission...
To nurture our community
To help our children learn
To grow spiritually
As we seek wisdom and justice.

Our Symbols and Artifacts...
The carving of the dragonfly found in our entryway was made by William Paterek Jr. a natural scientist. Entitled Metamorphosis, it represents the growth of a dragonfly from an egg and then a grub, crawling in the mud, to a beautiful, soaring insect. The carving serves as a symbol of the upward aspirations of a human life. [History of the UUSRF Dragonfly]
